New Year, New Mindset: A Fresh Approach to Resolutions
If you’re like most people, you probably have a love/hate relationship with New Year’s resolutions. We all start the new year with lofty goals and high expectations, only to lose steam throughout the year, and end up feeling like a failure. With a new year and a fresh start only a few days away, now is the perfect time to rethink the way we think about New Year’s resolutions!
First things first: Before you make any decisions about goals for the new year, take time to review the past year and celebrate your progress. All progress is worth celebrating, even if you didn’t meet your goals. We often forget to recognize our wins because they may seem insignificant to us in the end. However, celebrating your progress is a great way to increase your morale and put you in the right mindset to move forward!
Second: Think about all of the relationships, projects, hobbies, and experiences that you are currently most excited about in your life and that you want to carry forward into the new year. This will give you a great foundation to build upon and will give you momentum to move forward.
Third: Ask yourself what you want to experience and achieve in the future. These can be completely new and unprecedented experiences that have no ties to your past or present. Focusing on new experiences gives you motivation to move forward.
This mindset turns your past, present, and future into fuel for your fire instead of dousing your fire in discouragement and guilt.
